The Section of Endocrinology currently occupies 22,000 square feet of space on two floors of TAC. Approximately 2250 sq. ft are devoted to faculty, trainee and administrative offices (600 sq. ft are occupied by the Director, Dr. Sherwin and DERC administrative staff) and the remainder to laboratory research facilities. Many of the Core laboratories of the DERC are based on the first floor directly adjacent to the Section of Endocrinology.
The Section of Pediatric Endocrinology, headed by Dr. Tamborlane currently occupies ~2500 sq. ft of space. The research activities of the Pediatric Endocrinology program are closely integrated with its counterpart in Internal Medicine as evidenced by the fact that the Endocrinology Training Program is a joint effort of both sections.
The Section of Immunobiology, headed by Dr. Richard Flavell occupies over 50,000 square feet of space in the TAC. It has laboratory facilities for the production of transgenic rodents that serve as the DERC Transgenic Core. The Section of Immunobiology's animals are all housed in space dedicated specifically to this Section in TAC, which also serves as the base of operations for the NOD mouse core.
