Yale has established a third new interdisciplinary program in 2006, the CNNR). The CNNR will have at its center a group of nine primary faculty members housed in adjacent laboratories across the street from TAC and the DERC. The directors of the new program are Pietro De Camilli, M.D. (a DERC Core Director and member) and Stephen Strittmatter, M.D., Ph.D.. Two core laboratory facilities and affiliated CNNR faculty members will serve as bridges to the larger neuroscience community at Yale. The program's primary objectives are to advance basic knowledge of nerve cell biology, to elucidate pathogenic mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and to translate such insights into improved therapies. The CNNR will serve as a catalyst for collaborations in this field and is anticipated to be a valuable resource for DERC members seeking collaborations in such areas as hypoglycemia, diabetic neuropathy, Alzheimer's Disease and its link with diabetes, stroke, islet biology, cell trafficking and cell death.
